DALLAS – Tragedy struck the Dallas Cowboys Thursday afternoon after quarterback Tony Romo accidentally poured boiling water on his head while attempting to complete the “ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.” If you have access to social media or a television, you may have seen athletes, celebrities, and even politicians dumping a bucket of ice, cold water on their heads in order to raise awareness for ALS. The individual will then nominate others to do the same. A seemingly innocent and harmless task was apparently too much to handle for Tony Romo.

Romo, who was nominated by Jason Garrett to partake in the challenge, was last reported to be in the burn unit at a Dallas hospital after suffering second degree burns across his entire body. Video of the incident has been taken down due to it’s graphic nature, but it contains footage of Romo holding a large, steamy bucket and announcing his participation in the challenge with that signature smile on his face and then dumping the contents of it onto his head. Immediately after, Romo is seen writhing on the ground in pain and screaming for his wife Candace. It is unclear who actually uploaded the video, but Romo reportedly wanted the video to be uploaded so “everyone could witness the perils of participating in the Ice Bucket Challenge.”

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was not pleased with the news and questioned how this could even happen. “You’ve got to be kidding me,” said Jones. “How the f*ck can Tony Romo screw this up? Either he mistakenly put boiling water into the bucket which would’ve required him to actually take the time to boil water or his cold ice bucket was somehow intercepted.” When asked if he thinks Tony Romo will be available for week 1, Jones was adamant, “Oh, he’ll be ready. I don’t care if he looks like a god damn mummy. We sure as hell aren’t taking the field with Brandon Weeden as our quarterback.”

While most Ice Bucket participants have walked away unscathed, Romo hasn’t been the only casualty of the challenge. Wes Welker reportedly felt “dazed” and “confused” following the challenge and was tested for a concussion by team doctors. His status is currently “week to week.” Darren McFadden suffered an ankle sprain after tripping over the bucket following the challenge. He is currently questionable for Week 13. Finally, Danny Amendola suffered an ACL tear in both knees, a torn patellar tendon, a torn labrum, a broken collarbone, a high-ankle sprain, a concussion, a fractured ribcage, and plantar fasciitis after taking the challenge. He’s hoping to play through the injuries.
