76ers Ballin Ben Franklin Logo Is Simply Brilliant
If the Philadelphia 76ers organization was trying to add a bit of swagger to the organization’s identity then congratulations you have succeeded in doing that. Today images surfaced all over the internet of one of our countries 4 fathers handling the rock. HIs handle looks tight and his jumper from the right elbow is probably nothing short of automatic. If you’re looking for Benjamin Franklin to be on the Sixers jerseys it’s not happening. “The Ben Franklin logo is part of an identity package that the league will primarily use for merchandising, but at this time the team doesn’t have plans to implement into our uniforms or use as a secondary mark” said Sixers director of public relations Michael Preston.
It comes as a bit of a bummer that this won’t be their primary logo next season, it would have most certainly made me pick the Sixers more in NBA 2K15 next season. Either way I’ll be the first to buy a new Sixer shirt or hat when the Ben Franklin merchandise comes out, the organization definitely found a new revenue stream. Now if they can just get the team right just like they did with their secondary logo they will be just fine. They have the chance to vastly improve their roster with 7 picks in Thursdays NBA Draft which is regarded to be the deepest in years with the likes of Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parker set to enter the league.
Benjamin Franklin was an icon in Philly he was the governor, newspaper editor and so much more. Now he is part of the brand identity that birth some of the most iconic legends in Philadelphia Sports history such Julius Erving, Allen Iverson and Moses Malone. It’s history on history and I think more teams should incorporate more historical figures into their brand identity, the Sixers clearly knocked it out of the park with this one.
